Economic Analysis

1. Importance Very important   The USA is the largest and most important economy in the world.
2. Wisdom Important   As the US economy goes, so goes the world.
3. Knowledge Important   If the US Economy is in an expansion phase (GDP > 4%), then investment in stocks will be favorable.
4. Current Assessment Fair   US GDP is slowing, deficits remain high, and the US Congress and Executive branch are unable to come to an agreement on raising revenues and cutting spending, causing a downgrade in the long term credit rating by Standard and Poor's. The current European debt crisis in Greece, Italy and Spain is weighing down US economic progress.
5. Future Assessment Bad   US GDP has slowed, and is contributing to a global slowdown. Continued high unemployment, continued high home foreclosure rate, and high budget deficits are weighing down the US economy. The European sovereign debt crisis is likely to lead to a recession in Europe which will further decrease the US economic outlook.
